Yahoo! Eight months Down Under! As usual, three little pieces of my heart & mind as of late:
- Writing – So there’s this lovely third year college student named Alysa (also a fellow Canadian) who has set aside the past few weeks and the weeks ahead to “mentor” me in my creativity. She has pushed me to set goals and is walking alongside me to reach them, specifically in my writing. I’ve heartily enjoyed setting aside time in the week to make a cup of coffee, set the timer and type away at some ideas! Oh, and speaking of writings, this month I experienced “Ampersand” a bookstore/cafe in Sydney. It’s an old house that’s been transformed into a cafe, but not only that, it is lined on nearly every wall with floor-to-ceiling shelves full of books to read or buy! And yes, all my friends who are massive book worms definitely crossed my mind (Sharon and Angie especially).
- Producer – Okay, this really excites me. I hadn’t previously been interested in the “producer” position within film and television, but recently I’ve had the opportunity to serve in this capacity and it’s been an absolute BLAST! In the context of Hillsong Church, the producer is the communication point between the TV crew and the rest of the teams who run the service (stage team, technical director, audio guys, lighting guys, etc.,). It also means being responsible for the TV team and calling the shots (AKA, the boss!). Although slightly intense at times, and a needed ability to multitask, it’s an adrenaline rush for me and I absolutely love it! Also, in one of our projects for class, we were put in groups and asked to create some kind of short film. My role for this project was again “Producer” (and lighting technician) which meant organizing meetings, setting times and making sure the team was good to go – another opportunity that I fully enjoyed! Oh, and for those curious to see the final product of our short film…
- Pinch Me! – except don’t, ‘cause that would hurt, and I know this isn’t a dream, even though I feel like I’m living the dream! Man, I am a recipient of bucket loads of undeserved forgiveness and unmerited favour. Who am I that God is mindful of me and the dreams within my little heart? I get to live in Sydney Australia, which is a fulfilled dream that I didn’t even realize I had! I am part of Hillsong Church, gathering along with thousands of others each week to worship together and sit under incredible teaching of people like Brian & Bobbie Houston, Joel & Julia A’Bell and many more. And even with all my surroundings aside, I recently listened to presbytery that was given to me in 2014 and was amazed at how God has already fulfilled some of those words! Needless to say, this Eight Month In mark has me reminiscing about the time period before arriving on Australian soil, my first step, and where I’m at now. With this perspective I am again amazed at the goodness of God, and incredibly excited for what is to come!
