Five Months In.

Five months have passed.
Semester one is finished.
Australia is still epic.

Here’s three little fun facts about life in the 5th month…
1. Songs in the Carpark
After hearing about multiple people busking around these parts, I told myself I needed to give it a crack!  I made a point of tuning up my mandolin almost every day and memorizing some popular songs.  It seemed an easy enough task, and it sort of is, but for one still getting over some stage fright and not fully confident in memorization skills, it was enough of a challenge!  I eventually kicked out the nerves and caught a bus to a nearby mall.  Luckily one of the busking “stations” was open, so between the travelator and the carpark I opened my case, and my lungs, to strangers passing by – even earned a few bucks!

2. R&R

With a week off of school, two of my housemates, their friends and myself hopped in a car and drove up to Port Stephens (see the video for some footage of our adventures!) and it was an exceptional little vacation!  Beautiful landscapes, good company and a great slow pace to rejuvenate the soul.  As usual my camera was a faithful companion, and among my favourite photos were ones that I took of my housemate, Chane, delicately dancing on the shores of an abandoned beach!

3. Home

For one whole week I was surrounded by 3 beautiful pieces of home: Ryan, Brittany and baby Everest!  Yes, it made me a little more home sick, but it was so lovely to see familiar faces, hear familiar voices and be around some of my absolute favourite people.  How amazing is it that I can consider my brother, Ryan, not only an amazing friend who is faithful and constantly encouraging, but also a mentor that I look up to and glean wisdom from.  Plus, my sister (in law) Brittany is a force to be reckoned with and constantly inspires me with her openness and spiritual depth.

It was also a little interesting, having the memories and comforts of Canada collide with this fresh, new adventure in Australia.  However, I still have no doubt that this is exactly where I need to be, and that Hillsong Church, College and my house on Stock Farm Avenue are my zones.  It’s taken me a while to breath it in and let myself rest in this posture, but I know that for this specific time and this very special season, this is home.
